The Autumn Switch

by HannahT

With the days getting shorter and a definite chill in the air, it’s clear that winter is upon us. This onset of cooler weather results in many of us reaching for chunky knits and cosy scarves in an attempt to defend ourselves against the cold. However if you love summer as much as I do you may find yourself feeling rather reluctant to abandon your favourite summer pieces to the back of your wardrobe. I long to slip on my favourite summer dress or rock a pair of distressed shorts; so with a few tweaks here and there why not wear your favourite summer pieces throughout the colder months?

Just because rainy days are becoming more of a regular occurrence and sunny days seem like a rarity you don’t have to ditch your summer wardrobe just yet! Summer clothes can work just as well in the cooler months as during the summer, adding a burst of eye-catching colour or edgy freshness to cosier autumn and winter fashion. A light summer dress looks great when worn with either a chunky cardigan or jumper and a pair of boots! The contrast of the heavy knit and light summer dress gives a cosy yet edgy look that is on trend whilst still keeping you warm. If you’re feeling daring and the weather is a bit on the warmer side why not swap the tights for bare legs?

Strappy, floaty tops are another piece of summer clothing I struggle to part with once the weather begins to turn! They are extremely versatile and easy to wear with jeans, high-waisted skirts and even work as a layering piece. They give a pretty summery freshness to a winter outfit without being over the top. During the day I love to pair a strappy top with a nice pair of skinny jeans, boots, leather jacket and a funky scarf to keep my neck warm. This piece works even better during the evening with a pair of tailored trousers, high heels and blazer. Plus they are great for subtly showing off the last of your summer glow.

With the autumn days still feeling relatively warm, why not hold off on saying farewell to your summer wardrobe for a few more weeks and continue flaunting that gorgeous summer glow in your favourite summer pieces.
