January blues

January is my least favourite month in the year. In England, Christmas has passed, the weather is rainy, cold, and dark, and summer feels like a long way away. People have spent a lot of time with their friends and family over the holidays, and going back to work or school without a break for a while feels boring and sad. Often people have eaten too much over Christmas and New Year, and so go on diets, which can make you grumpy! There is even a day in January called 'Blue Monday', which is supposedly the ‘most depressing day of the year’ because it is the day when everyone receives their credit cards bills and sees that they have spent too much money over Christmas! January is the most popular month in England for booking holidays. This is because people want to look forward to a break (usually somewhere hot and sunny compared to cold and rainy England!) Nearly every advert on television seems to be advertising holidays at the moment! I was one of these people - I booked flights from France to England in March so I can visit my friends and family during my two-week break. I’m especially excited because it is my birthday during that time, so I’m looking forward to spending it at home! The only good part of January, for me, is the January sales. Nearly every shop sells items heavily reduced and sometimes I find some real bargains! It’s perfect for anyone who has overspent over Christmas because many things are much cheaper. I bought a few warm jumpers last week to get me through the rest of the cold weather - I’m looking forward to better weather in the spring! Often, the magazines and newspapers tell us to set ourselves a goal to achieve, or to plan an event to look forward to and to keep us happy. For me, this is my break in March - I can’t wait to spend time with my close friends and family again! I’m also trying to eat more healthily, do more exercise, and to sleep for at least 8 hours a night to make me more productive!
