Ever since I watched the television series The OC (starring Mischa Barton, Rachel Bilson, Adam Brody and Benjamin McKenzie), I have been obsessed with going to Orange County. The lifestyle shown in the series seems so idyllic; everyone lives minutes away from the sandy beach, goes surfing every day and is beautiful and blonde. Another show which made me fall in love with California is Laguna Beach, a reality show about beautiful and wealthy teenagers living in Laguna Beach, Orange County.
The brand Hollister also got me into California, because all of their clothes are inspired by the California lifestyle. I still love their clothes. A few years ago, their stores used to be very dimly lit so as to give the impression of coming in from the sunshine. The music played in the store is really upbeat and California-inspired, and they always spray Hollister perfume around the store so that all the clothes have that California scent.
So my dream is now to go and visit Laguna Beach and visit the exact places the Laguna Beach cast hung out at in the show! Laguna Beach is really beautiful, with lots of sandy beaches and places to surf.
I also want to visit San Francisco and San Diego … many people have said that San Diego is a really nice place to live and San Francisco is bustling with so much culture, as well as the beach. Los Angeles is also on my list, having watched the MTV show The Hills!
It would be amazing if I could go and live in Orange County one day. I imagine myself going to work and then going to the beach after work or at the weekend. I would also love to learn surfing. It looks really fun! The weather is continually sunny, which would be amazing – very different from British weather!
I hope that my knowledge of Spanish will give me the advantage in California. California has a large Spanish-speaking population, and in some places you can get by solely on speaking Spanish.
I plan to visit California as soon as possible to see all of my favourite places in person. Hopefully I can work there someday and enjoy the beautiful weather, surf and relaxed lifestyle! I recommend you also visit California too, if possible.
